Last night, was one of the craziest nights I've ever had. Zach and I hitched to Queenstown yesterday and got in at about 9:30. We couldn't get a hostel, and so decided to sleep outside, as we normally do. First let me describe Queenstown. It reminds me of if the mountains in Warm Springs were next to redfish lake, and redfish was huge. Then imagine a town smaller than Ketchum, with a similar feeling, but with a lot more stores, and a crazy night life. It's know for its night life, and its plethora of activites to do, lots of skiing in the winter, jet boating, bungi jumping, sky diving, you name it. Not that I have any money to do any of that, it's cool to pretend.
Alright, now to what happened last night. Zach and I sat near the lake for a while, until we decided to go look for a place to sleep. We walked to the Queenstown Gardens and it seemed like it was out of the way enough to not be bothered by anyone, so we pulled out our sleeping bags and laid down behind a rock. We were nervous about the sprinklers going off, and decided to chance it. Then at about 2:30 in the morning the sprinklers in our area went off. We woke up grabbed all of our stuff and ran. After the shocking wake up, we were a bit wet and tiered, and decided to move to a place where the sprinklers had finished their cycle. After laying down a tarp as to not get wet, we started to fall back asleep, however, I had a really weird feeling. Then I started to hear breathing. At first I thought it was Zach, but it was coming from the wrong direction. Zach was listing to it to, and it was one of the most unpleasant sounds. It really freaked us out. You could tell it was an animal, and something big by the sound of the breathing. I've slept outside in the wild and had animals around, and not been scared or worried. But for some reason the sound that was coming from the bushes was the most negative upsetting noise. It sent chills down my spine every time I heard it breath. We both got up and threw everything in our bags and hurried away. We packed everything and decided to go back to see what it was. We shined the light, and saw two eyes, then it went into the brush. Zach had heard the same breathing in the spot we had before the sprinklers went off, so what ever it was it was following, and watching us. I've never felt so uneasy before, it was really strange. What ever it was, it had really bad ju-ju, and a lot of negative energy. The hair was standing on the back of my neck as we walked back to town, I've never had that before. It was about 3:00 now and we didn't really have anywhere to sleep, so we ate some chocolate to calm us down, and walked around the town. We ended up sitting with these girls on the street and playing music together. It was really refreshing, and felt similar to Burning Man. We stayed up and watched the sun rise, and now we're both sleepy and waiting to get into a hostel for tonight. It was a really eventful crazy night, and so far we are loving queenstown. We'll stay here for a week probably.
Noah when I was in Queenstown all that fun stuff what just starting to happen...I remember "rap jumping" - do they still do that there? Basically it's just rapelling face first. Also river surfing....are they still doing that? It was awesome fun...wear a wetsuit, helmet, gloves and boogie board, and body surf the rapids down the river. fun! yo crazy old uncle
